How To: Reach Ingolstadt From Munich Airport

Munich Airport to Ingolstadt
You will probably arrive at Munich airport which is the nearest and most convenient for travelling to Ingolstadt. There are multiple ways to reach Ingolstadt from the Munich Airport. The most common are:
· Bus X109
· Train
If you are travelling for the first time and have multiple luggage items, then it is recommended to take the Bus X109 since it is convenient for carrying luggage.
1. Bus X109
If you arrive at Terminal 1, after clearing the Immigration control and taking your luggage you will exit at the area of Gates B/C/D. Alternatively, if you arrive at Terminal 2 which is on the opposite side of Munich airport central you will exit from one of its gates.

Search for its directions with starting point as your current location. Set the travel option to bus/train and it will show you the options with Bus X109. Select the Bus X109. It will show you the starting point (bus stop) till where you will need to walk.
The Bus X109 will arrive at this location. You can give your luggage to the driver who will place it in the luggage compartment below and you can then conveniently travel towards Ingolstadt.
Note: You can buy the tickets either online from the website (link below) or while entering the bus from the driver himself for which you would need cash! The ticket would cost somewhere around 25 euros.

You can get off from the bus at two different locations in Ingolstadt depending on whichever is closer to your final destination address.

The bus runs every one hour. The actual plan of the bus can be found on the website (link below). Depending on your arrival terminal. You can also start from Terminal 2 which is the first stop before Munich Airport Central. This guide is made for the starting point set as Munich Airport Center.

2. Train
There are no direct trains to Ingolstadt from the airport. You would need to first take a train (S-Bahn) to Munich (S-bahn stop ofHauptbahnhoff) and then from MunichHauptbahnhoff change from S-Bahn platform (underground) to the main railway station above from where you will take the main train to Ingolstadt.
Note: It is recommended to download the DB navigator app from Playstore or apple store to see the actual timings and platforms of the train
You will probably arrive at the Terminal 1 of the Airport, after clearing the Immigration control and taking your luggage you will exit at the area of Gates B/C/D. Navigate towards the SBahn station of the Airport which is at the Munich airport Centre (MAC).
Locate the DB (Deutsche Bahn) Ticket point at the MAC and buy a train ticket to Ingolstadt which will cost you somewhere around 20 euros or a 49euro ticket which can be used all over Germany. The representatives will hand you a ticket with the details. The details might be different than the one mentioned here depending on the fastest route.
Note: The S bahn station is underground. You need to look for the green S logo at the airport which will lead you underground.
From the S-Bahn station take the train S1 or S8 to Munich Hauptbahnhof. The trains travel every 10 to 20 mins.
After reaching the Munich Hauptbahnhof, make your way up towards the main railway platforms. The trains RB16 and RE1 run every hour to Ingolstadt (most likely from platforms 20, 21 or 24).
You can get off at either Ingolstadt Hauptbahnhof or Ingolstadt Nordbahnhof depending on which is closer to your destination address.
