How To: Activate Public Health Insurance

Pre-Requisites:
You have arrived in Germany.
You have completed the process of city registration (Anmeldung) and bank account opening.
Procedure:
Please send the following documents to your health insurance provider via email. In the email, kindly inform them of your arrival and request that they activate your health insurance. Additionally, please ask them to provide you with a health insurance card.
Meldebescheinigung (Document you get from Rathaus after Anmeldung).
Bank account details (IBAN) from which the amount will be deducted.
Current Enrollment letter
Scanned Passport and VISA.

The recommended way is to visit the health insurance company with all the above-mentioned documents. This method will be prompt as compared to communication through emaw
Important to Remember:
The deduction of insurance shall be made from the date of starting semester date.
You will receive your health insurance card at your home.
Choose a family doctor in your nearby as your Hausartzt (family doctor), because you will be visiting him/her most of the time.
